We’re winding down on predictions and gearing up for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. This week, we get to the good stuff: the boys and girls duke it out amongst themselves for VMA domination. Play along with me and make your predictions but be warned: I may not always be right, but I am never wrong.
Best Male Video
I did a pretty thorough rundown of this video when it was released a few months ago. I will say that, while initially a bit disappointing, it has grown on me. It needs to be noted that is kiiind of unfair for JBiebs to be included in anything requiring a fan vote considering the fact that his fans are surprisingly terrifying wackadoodles.
Love Frank Ocean but on second viewing, don’t love this video. However, props to him for sticking with the orange theme. I like a man with consistency.
Drake feat. Rihanna, “Take Care”
Oh man, it’s Drake sad so sad sad sad Drake so so sad sad. Let’s be real, we all know this video was just an excuse to get close to Rihanna again. And those fish creep me out. But this is a solid offering from hip-hop’s most sensitive soul. Let’s just all be glad he didn’t decide to throw Aaliyah in.
Chris Brown, “Turn Up the Music”
Women beaters are not welcome here.
I feel like every video Usher makes is essentially the same. A lot of brooding, a beautiful woman, a slick move here and there. If I didn’t love Usher and this song, that would be a problem. What can I say? No one gives better “face” than Usher.
Who I want to win: Usher, “Climax”
Who should win: Drake feat. Rihanna, “Take Care”
Who will win: Justin Bieber, “Boyfriend”
Best Female Video
WINNERRRR. I don’t care if you like Rihanna or not, you can’t tell me that anyone made a better video this year.
Ughhh so what did we learn? We learn that Katy is a god-awful actor and that breakups can be cured by enlisting for active duty in the US military. Even for her this is bad.
Guuuys remember last year when she revealed herself as Pregnanace?? If she had made that performance the video for this song, I think it would have even topped “We Found Love” because that was one of the best things I’ve ever seen in my life. (Jay’s reaction at the end? OMSDLSKAJDFLK AJSDF LSKJFDLKSJ SWOON) Alas, she did not, but this is still a great video. SHE JUST LOVES JAY-Z SO MUCH. However, this did mark the beginning of the wedge sneaker trend so she loses points for that.
Nicki gurl you cuuuh-raaazy. I’m pretty sure that’s the reaction she’s going for in every single one of her videos. My main takeaway from this: I wonder if I would look good with a lime green bob?
Selena Gomez & The Scene, “Love You Like a Love Song”
This song is unbelievably annoying and the video is real weird but that doesn’t even matter because OMG HOW MUCH DOES SHE LOOK LIKE HER BOYFRIEND RIGHT NOW?
Who I want to win: Rihanna, “We Found Love”
Who should win: Rihanna, “We Found Love”
Who will win: Rihanna, “We Found Love”
Just as a heads up, if you don’t already, you should probs definitely start following me on Twitter now because I am going to live-tweet the iiiish out of this program.
